About the Position

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) in collaboration with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), has an opportunity for two Junior Data Extractors who will be joining the SANSA Space team in Hartebeeshoek, on a three (3) months project contract basis. Reporting to the Digital Earth South Africa (DESA) Project Lead, the Data Extractors’ role will be to extract geospatial data from the receiving system to the data processing system using the Direct Receiving Station Multi Mission (DRSMM).

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • National Diploma: Engineering (Electronics) or equivalent qualification

Minimum work Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in data capturing or comparable experience
  • Experience in Linux or Ubuntu
  • Experience in office productivity suite as well as google docs and google sheets

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Acquisition and data archiving
  • Operating and monitoring of the data information management system (DIMS)
  • Enforcing quality control
  • Reporting on archiving and acquisition statistics
  • Effectively writing of weekly progress reports
