Selection Process

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• An NQF Level 6 qualification in Animal Health or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.
• Current registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as an Animal Health Technician.
• A valid driver’s licence (except where applicants have disabilities).
• No previous work experience is required.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Good time management abilities.
• Knowledge of the:
  • Animal Diseases Act, 1984 (Act 35 of 1984)
  • Animal Identification Act, 2002 (Act 6 of 2002)
  • Meat Safety Act, 2000 (Act 40 of 2000)
  • Animal disease control and eradication programmes
  • Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
• Computer literacy.
• Report-writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

• Providing animal health regulatory services in accordance with the Animal Diseases Act.
• Implementing disease prevention and control measures.
• Supporting State Veterinarians in disease surveillance, animal production, reproductive management, and law enforcement activities.
• Collecting samples for testing and disease monitoring.
• Assisting livestock owners through animal health extension services.
• Maintaining and updating databases and records.
• Preparing and submitting monthly and quarterly reports.
• Contributing to animal health programmes aimed at improving livestock productivity and disease management.
