Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) Vacancy Notice

Application Guidelines

Applicants must submit a fully completed and signed New Z83 Application Form, accompanied by a recent and comprehensive CV that includes contactable references with telephone numbers and email addresses. Applications should be submitted in PDF format as a single document.

Only shortlisted candidates will be requested to provide certified copies of qualifications and other supporting documents before or on the interview date.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete:

  • A practical competency assessment.
  • An integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.
  • Additional technical competency exercises where applicable.

Candidates applying for Senior Management Service (SMS) positions must also:

  • Complete the Nyukela Pre-Entry Programme for SMS through the National School of Government.
  • Undergo technical assessments, managerial competency evaluations, and psychometric testing where applicable.

Applicants may be requested to provide consent for social media screening. All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to suitability checks, including:

  • Criminal record verification
  • Financial checks
  • Qualification verification
  • Citizenship verification
  • Employment and reference checks

Applicants with foreign qualifications must submit a SAQA evaluation certificate.

Successful candidates will be required to:

  • Sign an employment contract and performance agreement within three months of appointment.
  • Undergo a security clearance process.

Typist (Ref No: 2026/58/OCJ)

Salary: R201 093 – R236 877 per annum

Location: North West Division of the High Court, Mmabatho

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • No prior work experience is required.
  • A valid driver’s licence will be advantageous.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a practical typing assessment to determine their suitability for the position.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures.
  • Understanding of court administration processes and filing systems.
  • Familiarity with Public Service legislation and Batho Pele Principles.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
  • Dictaphone typing skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Problem-solving and organisational abilities.
  • Time management skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Typing court orders, judgments, legal documents, and reports.
  • Preparing and maintaining court rolls, including term rolls, weekly rolls, motion rolls, and unopposed matters.
  • Keeping relevant registers up to date.
  • Submitting judgments and related court documents to relevant stakeholders.
  • Providing administrative support to ensure efficient court operations.
