The Johannesburg Social Housing Company SOC Limited (JOSHCO) mandate is to develop and manage affordable rental
housing for the lower market as an integral part of efforts to eradicate the housing backlog of the City of Johannesburg.
JOSHCO is a registered Social Housing Institution and is accredited by the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA).
JOSHCO invites suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for the following vacant position.
Position : Bookkeeper
Employment Status : Permanent
Department : Finance
Purpose of this position:
To prepare accounts to balance sheet and verify correctness within a set timeframe. In addition, the incumbent will
be responsible to ensure that accounts are accurately and completely managed on a daily basis to ensure proper
reporting.
Responsibilities (but not limited to the following):
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS
Maintain an accurate trial balance/ledger accounts
Generate monthly financial accounts
Calculate income tax and prepare documentation for submission and ensure payment
Prepare standard and ad hoc financial reports required for responsible fiscal management, including budget
analysis, cash flows and forecasts including national treasury templates
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
Ensure all relevant support documentation is attached to requisitions
Ensure all creditors accounts are reconciled
Authorize journal entries
CASH BOOK and PETTY CASH
Ensure cash book entries have been captured and allocated to appropriate general ledger accounts
Ensure bank reconciliations are undertaken and signed off
Manage petty cash
Ensure reconciliation of petty cash
Sign off petty cash reconciliations
ASSET MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE
Ensure all asset registers are updated
Ensure assets are correctly depreciated and captured

Ensure safeguarding of assets
Insure all company assets
Prepare and submit monthly report to Accountant: on state of assets and liabilities
PAYROLL
Process payroll to general ledger
Prepare third party payments (PAYE, UIF, etc)
Process directors’ fees
GENERAL LEDGER
Finalise inputs and attend to month end closure routine
Run general ledger and peruse final accounts
Reconcile balance sheet items to previous months and examine unusual movement
Review general ledger with Accountant and make necessary adjustments
Provide Accountant with detailed analysis as requested
Reconcile all intercompany accounts
Pass adjusting journal entries
Maintenance of general ledger accounts
GENERAL
Complete VAT Returns
Assist with internal audit procedures
Oversee adequate information back up
Establish filing systems and investigate archiving of documents in an easy retrieval system
Produce variance reports which highlights budget overspends
Assist Accountant throughout the month with various accounting duties
Prepare for annual audit and assist as required
Perform any other functions as might be required
Capture on and maintain the Capital Investment Management System (CIMS)
Minimum job Requirements Interested applicants must be in possession of:
Higher Certificate / National Diploma in accounting or business administration, or equivalent
At least 3 years’ working experience within a bookkeeping/ financial or similar environment
Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles.
Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of the SAP, Pastel, MDA etc. accounting
software package.
Attributes/Skills – Ideal candidate is expected to display profound knowledge of contract management/ & Supply
chain management environment, Knowledge of dealing with Treasury regulations and requirements and Knowledge
and understanding of PFMA Act, PPPFA Act and B-BBEE Act.
