Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Recruitment Notice

Application Requirements

Applications must be submitted through the DHA e-Recruitment Portal and must include:

  • A completed New Z83 Application Form (effective 1 January 2021).
  • A detailed CV indicating employment history, duties performed, reasons for leaving each position, and at least two recent contactable references.
  • Driver’s licence and PDP details where required.
  • Correct reference number and job title.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo:

  • A practical competency assessment.
  • An integrity and ethical conduct assessment.
  • Verification of qualifications, criminal records, credit history, citizenship, employment references, and other suitability checks.
  • Submission of supporting documents, including qualifications, academic transcripts, identity documents, and driver’s licences where applicable.

Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. Successful candidates will be required to complete a probation period and obtain the appropriate security clearance.

The DHA processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and submission of an application constitutes consent to such processing.


Position 1: Control Immigration Officer: Inspectorate (24 Posts)

Salary: R413 001 – R486 501 per annum (Level 8)

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 6 qualification in:
    • Law
    • Public Management
    • Public Administration
    • Policing
    • Criminology
    • Forensics
    • Criminal Justice
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a law enforcement environment.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Immigration Act
    • Refugees Act
    • Criminal Procedure Act
    • Relevant legislation and international treaties
  • Valid Code C1 or C (Code 10) driver’s licence.
  • Valid Public Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Willingness to travel, including internationally, and work extended hours.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidates will:

  • Enforce immigration legislation and investigate illegal migration.
  • Supervise the detection, arrest, detention, and deportation of undocumented foreign nationals.
  • Investigate human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and fraudulent document activities.
  • Support anti-corruption and high-profile investigations.
  • Testify in criminal, civil, and disciplinary proceedings.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct inspections and law enforcement operations.
  • Monitor foreign nationals residing in South Africa and verify legal status.
  • Manage resources and supervise staff within the unit.
  • Maintain departmental vehicles and operational equipment.

Position 2: Immigration Officer: Inspectorate (98 Posts)

Salary: R280 278 – R330 162 per annum (Level 6)

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 6 qualification in:

    • Forensics
    • Criminal Justice
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Immigration Act
    • Refugees Act
    • South African Constitution
    • Public Service regulatory framework
  • Valid Code B, C1, C, or EC1 driver’s licence.
  • Valid Public Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime when required.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidates will:

  • Enforce the Immigration Act and related legislation.
  • Detect, investigate, arrest, and process undocumented foreign nationals.
  • Conduct inspections and investigations into immigration-related violations.
  • Assist with deportation procedures and detention processes.
  • Support anti-corruption and law enforcement investigations.
  • Prepare court documentation and provide evidence in legal proceedings.
  • Monitor compliance with permits and immigration conditions.
  • Participate in joint law enforcement operations.
  • Maintain records, departmental assets, and operational resources.
  • Attend training programmes to enhance immigration enforcement skills.
