Job Description

Fire Fighter 1

An exciting vacancy exists at King Phalo Airport for an experienced Fire Fighter 1 within the Airport Management Division.

Key Performance Output

The successful candidate, reporting to the Supervisor Fire and Rescue will be responsible for the following:

· Maintain operational readiness of resources including vehicle, equipment and infrastructure to comply with Airport category.

· Ensure understanding of vehicle and/or equipment and limitations to ensure utilisation within design parameters.

· Adhere to relevant statutory/legislative regulations, SOP’s, operational standards, ACSA policies and procedures, employee manual and Service Level Agreements/MOU to ensure business continuity.

· Conduct emergency standbys to prevent incidents and accidents as requested.

· Analyse, Monitor, identify, mitigate and report areas of non-compliance (HIRA). Conduct Runway, Taxiway and Apron inspections and patrols to reduce potential hazards, notify ATC and take remedial action if necessary.

· Ensure implementation of continuous improvement of the equipment/infrastructure.

· Adhere to relevant statutory/legislative regulations, SOP’s, operational standards, policies and practices.

· Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal (peers, unions, team) as well as external (service providers etc.) relationships and implement remedial actions where required to ensure achievement of organisational goals and enhance emergency response preparedness.

· Participate in educational Fire and Safety awareness programmes.

· Maintain level of physical fitness as per ACSA policies and procedures.

· Attend identified development programmes for succession planning purposes

Technical Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such will be required:

· Grade 12 National Senior Certificate is Essential

· SAESI in Fire Fighter 1 is Essential

· SAESI in Hazmat Awareness is Essential

· HPCSA in BAA/ First Aid Level 3 is Essential

· Up to 6 months operational Fire Fighting 2 & Rescue is Recommended

· Driver’s License Code B essential.

· Drivers License Code C essential.

· Hazmat operations recommended

Fire Fighter 1- Grade B4

An exciting opportunity exists at Cape Town International Airport for a dedicated fire fighter within the Operations Management division.

Key Performance Outputs

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Supervisor Fire and Rescue and will be responsible for but not limited to the following.

  • Maintain operational readiness including vehicles, equipment and infrastructure to comply with Airport category.
  • Operate Fire Fighting and Rescue Equipment and Tools.
  • Ensure understanding of vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance and report defects
  • Adhere to statutory regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, operational standards, ACSA policies and procedures and Service Level Agreements to ensure business continuity.
  • Activate and respond to all relevant incidents and accidents within area of jurisdiction, scope of training and expertise.
  • Conduct emergency standbys to prevent incidents and accidents.
  • Analyse, monitor, identify, mitigate and report areas of non-compliance.
  • Conduct Runway, Taxiway and Apron inspections and patrols to reduce potential hazards, notify ATC and take remedial action if necessary.
  • Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal and external relationships.
  • Maintain level of physical fitness as per ACSA policies and procedures.
  • Respond to all medical emergencies within area of scope and training.
  • Record and capture information for billing purposes.
  • Participate in Fire and Safety awareness programmer

Technical Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such, will be required:

  • The candidate must be in possession of Matric (Grade 12) Qualification
  • Valid code B driver’s license with driving experience
  • Fire Fighter 1 qualification
  • Hazmat Awareness qualification.
  • BAA/ First Aid 3 Appointment will be subject to applicant passing Level “A” physical fitness test.

An exciting vacancy exists at King Shaka International Airport for an experienced Fire Prevention Officer within the Airport Management Division.

Key Performance Output

The successful candidate, reporting to the Assistant Manager Fire and Rescue will be responsible for the following:

· Ensure compliance to aviation legislative requirements (CAA – Civil Aviation Authority, ICAO – International Civil Aviation Organization, and Municipal by laws).

· Ensure the buildings comply with legislation, signage, escape routes, fire extinguishers, hose reels as per SANS.

· Analysis of current systems and improvement thereof where required.

· Ensure regular site visits and inspections with staff

· Conduct training on fire prevention

· Develop and maintain a fire prevention plan

· Ensure that all fire equipment is serviceable.

· Produce monthly reports on Fire Prevention status
