About the job:
The CSIR has an internship opportunity for Safety Officer in the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Portfolio. The incumbent will ensure Regulatory and Statutory compliance to OHS Act, Local Government by laws and National Building Regulations; as well as generate and monitor relevant standards and compliance in all Facilities Management Activities and assist the Safety and Regulatory Compliance Officer to enforce safety standards and requirements at all CSIR sites. This position is based in Pretoria.
This position reports to the Safety and Regulatory Compliance Officer
Key responsibilities:
Under supervision the intern will be required to perform the following duties:
- Assist in the development of a site-specific health and safety specifications for all construction projects within CSIR as required by construction regulations.
- Assist in approval of the health and safety plans and ensure that plans are implemented and maintained on construction sites by conducting regular site audits and stop construction work that deviate from the plan
- Assist in conducting health and safety inductions for all CSIR contractors and keep all the registers.
- Assist the Safety and Regulatory Compliance Officer in ensuring that all tenants comply with CSIR¿s health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Aid operational support and leadership within Properties Management on all aspects related to OHS Act and regulatory compliance and conduct health and safety inspections of all tenants to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Assist with provision of support on operational support and leadership within Facilities Management (FM) on all aspects related to OHS Act and regulatory compliance by implementing and monitoring health and safety standards and procedures.
- Assist in facilitation and reviews of all FM SHE risk assessments, safe operating procedures and other procedures are adhered to; training is adequate and up to date.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A Diploma / National Diploma in Electrical or Built Environment or Environmental or Mechanical or Safety
- Qualifications in construction management will be advantageous
- MS Outlook
- SACPCMP but not compulsory
- Graduate in search of an internship to gain experience (No working experience required).
- Not have participated previously in any formal employment or internship/learnership programme.
- Must be a South African.
- Must be unemployed and under the age of 35.
- Must have a driver¿s licence
- Pro-active
- Good computer skills
- Good Interpersonal skills
- Report writing skills
- A team player
- All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
