The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works invites unemployed South African youth
to apply for the Phakamile Mabija Apprenticeship Programme 2025.

Closing Date: Tuesday, 30 September 2025
Location: Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Duration: 36 Months (3 years)
Qualification: Nationally recognised Red Seal trade qualification
Stipend: Earn while you learn


About the Programme
The Phakamile Mabija Apprenticeship Programme provides young people with hands-on training
and practical skills in the following trades:

  • Refrigeration
  • Welding
  • Fitting and Turning
  • Boilermaking


This is an opportunity to obtain a nationally recognised qualification (Red Seal) while gaining
workplace experience and earning a stipend.

Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must be between 18–35 years of age and meet the following academic requirements:
Boilermaking: N2 Qualification with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science,
Drawings, and Boilermaking Trade Theory.
Fitting and Turning: N2 Qualification with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science,
Drawings, and Fitting and Turning Trade Theory.
Welding: NQF Level 4 with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Drawings, and
Platers Trade Theory.
Refrigeration:
N2 Qualification with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science,
Drawings, and Electrical Trade Theory.

How to Apply
Applicants must complete the Apprenticeship Application Form (available at the DRPW District
Offices) and submit it with the following:

  • CV
  • Certified copies of ID and qualifications
  • Proof of residence
  • SARS registration number
  • Proof of banking details
