| Minimum Requirements | • 4 years Diploma/Degree in General Nursing, and registered with the SA Nursing Council as “Registered Nurse”. • 1 year certificate or 2 year B Tech Diploma in Occupational Health nursing, registered with the SA Nursing Council as “Occupational Health Practitioner” as required by the OHS Act. • Qualification in spirometry • Registered Audiometrist with a SASOHN dispensing licence • Computer literate in Microsoft Office • Valid Code B driver’s licence and ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 test |
| Primary Duties | • Practice in terms of the guidelines and requirements of the SA Nursing Council, SASOHN, COID, Medicine and related substance Act and OHS Act • Render occupational health care at the workplace for the prevention and managing of occupational diseases • Implement and maintain an effective medical surveillance programme. • Identification of health hazards/risks that employees are exposes to. • Provide direction to management on the maintaining of employees health. • Managing the reporting of injuries and occupational diseases • Primary health care where possible with diagnosis, treatment and referral of minor ailments and chronic diseases • Make direct decisions pertaining to the dispending and control of medication. • Refer employees with symptoms and signs of communicable diseases, e.g. HIV/AIDS and other STD’s, TB, etc to appropriate service providers. • Responsible for quick, critical, and correct decision-making during emergency treatment. • Advisory member on the Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Committees • Effective supervision of subordinates • Financial management by monitoring and controlling of an approved budget. • Provide specialist advice to Line Managers and assist in medical panel cases pertaining to incapacity and disability • Implement occupational health and awareness programmes |
| Knowledge | • Knowledge and application of OHS Act, COIDA, Medicines, and Related Substances Control Act, Nursing Act. • Application and analysis of Audiometry and spirometry • Dispensing of medicines • Knowledge and application of OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 systems |
