About the Position

As a Trainee Train Assistant, you will support the Train Driver in safely and efficiently operating various types of locomotives and trains — including freight, passenger, heavy-haul, and high-speed services — ensuring cargo is delivered on time and in good condition.

Position Responsibilities

Assist with locomotive preparation, brake tests, and pre-trip inspections.
Participate in shunting and sidings operations.
Monitor train safety during journeys and report incidents.
Provide administrative support, including maintaining a train journal.
Comply with safety regulations and Transnet procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Latest Article:

Grade 12 (Matric) with Pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science
Minimum height of 1.6m
Must be 21 years or older by September 2025
Good physical and mental health (medical testing required)
Psychomotor ability (Vienna Testing System assessment)
Willingness to undergo extensive theoretical and practical training
Reside in or near Ermelo
