Childline South Africa is a non-profit organisation which works to protect children from
violence and further the culture of children’s rights in South Africa. Childline runs a
national, 24-hour, toll-free telephone counselling service for children and adults.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will serve as a First responder at the Crisis Centre
• Provide safe and confidential crisis interventions for survivors of sexual
violence.
• Assist the client in being prepared for the services that will be
performed and liaise effectively with all role players to ensure that
survivors are attended to promptly.
• Provide trauma containment/acute psychological support and support
to survivors throughout the process of receiving services at a designated
sexual violence facility.
• Provide pre- and post-test HIV testing and counselling only when
sufficiently trained.
• Provide treatment literacy and linkage to care for HIV positive clients
(ART) and HIV negative clients (PEP).
• Provide supportive counselling for adherence to Post-Exposure
Prophylaxis (PEP).
• Screen for TB, provide treatment literacy, and linkage to care.
• Screen for STIs, provide treatment literacy and linkage to care.
• Provide treatment literacy for sexual and reproductive health services
and link to appropriate care.
• Ensure the safety and comfort of survivors.
• Be present, at the survivor’s request, during the taking of the survivor’s
statement by the police, as well as during forensic examination.
• Compile files, notes or reports that are addressed to the supervising
social worker.
• Assist in social care when delegated and supervised by a social worker.
• Provide support to administrative tasks, such as assisting with
reception duties.
Requirements:
• Qualification on Social Auxiliary worker and be registered with the
South African Council for Social Service Professions
• Minimum experience on working with survivors of sexual violence
• 1-2 years working experience with survivors of sexual violence
• Experience working in HIV,TB, STI &gender-based violence programs
• Computer literacy (Intermediate level in MS Office package)
• Ability to communicate in English and IsiXhosa or another South African
language.
• Clear criminal record
• Drivers license an advantage
