ABOUT THE POSITION

This call is made as part of implementing the national presidential employment stimulus programme for a period ending 31 March 2021. Successful candidates will assist SAHRA with the national audit survey of monuments, memorials, and statues project as mandated by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

This position is a Fixed -Term Contract Position.

The closing date for applications is Friday, the 20th November 2020.

Please note that the Monthly Stipend is R5600 with no company benefits.

MAIN PURPOSE:
The collection, and submission to SAHRA, of data on monuments and memorials as part of the National Audit of Monuments and Memorials.
Part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Package.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
KPA 1: Survey of monuments and memorials.
KPA 2: Data Extraction.
KPA 3: Reporting.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Survey of Monuments and Memorials:

  • Undertake surveys in identified areas to record any monuments and memorials in the area using the prescribed form.
  • Liaise with identified stakeholders with specialist knowledge or interest in an area identified for survey.

Data Collection:

  • Complete the prescribed form for recording monuments and memorials.
  • Provide detailed recordings of monuments and memorials identified in the area being surveyed.
  • Ensure that forms are verified by the fieldwork coordinator.
  • Submit completed forms in the prescribed manner.

Reporting:
Compile reports on activities and numbers of monuments and memorials recorded.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma/Degree in a Heritage, Archaeology, History, or another cognate discipline.
  • Knowledge of SAHRIS will be an added advantage, as will basic photography skills.
  • Candidates who have undertaken work experience in a heritage related field will be given preference.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend fairly complex instructions, correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees and stakeholders of the organization. Ability to negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders and/or service providers.

NUMERICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and ratios, as well as the ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skill:
Computer literacy with regard to the use of Excel, Word and Power Point. Familiarity in the use of a smart phone is essential.
