South African Police Service – Analyst: Crime Desk


LOCATION: Crime Desk, Priority Crime Management Centre, Directorate for
Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Head Office, Pretoria
REFERENCE: DPCI/HO/15/2020 (Three posts)
Generic Minimum Requirements:
 Applicant must display competency in the post-specific functions of the
post;
 Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and an applicable three
year Diploma / Degree registered on the National Learner Record
Database on at least a NQF 6 level;
 Be proficient in at least two official languages, of which one must be
English;
 Must be a South African citizen;
 Must have no previous criminal/ departmental convictions or criminal or
departmental cases pending;
 Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security
screening;
 Be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence;
 Relevant courses in the field of the post may be an advantage;
 Must not have tattoos which will be visible when wearing summer uniform.
Additional Requirements:
 Applicant must have a three year Diploma / Degree registered on the
National Learner Record Database on at least a NQF 6 level in
Policing/Law/Criminology/Commercial Law/Forensic Investigation with at
least zero to two (0-2) years relevant experience in the field of the post.
Core Functions:
 Conduct priority crime threat and investigation based on intelligence and
problem solving policing practices through multi-disciplinary case
planning approach.
 Direct and guide threat based multi-disciplinary project investigation,
decision making focusing on what is happening now and predictions
about future developments (hypothesis testing) informing the Provincial,
National and Regional Priority Crime Threat Pictures (SADC Region).
 Develop inferences and risk hypothesis regarding the criminal business
system to inform investigation combatting solution.
 Develop interferences and risk hypothesis regarding the criminal
business system to investigate combatting solutions.
 Manage and control the human and physical resources of the Desk.
 Manage the flow of information and intelligence.
 Provide information on priority crime threats to the operational leg of
the DPCI.
 Monitor daily crime reports and identify priority crime trends.
 Co-ordinate information with role players and departments.
 Ensure the enrichment of information and intelligence.

General:
 Only the official application form which will be available at all SAPS

 Certified copies of an applicant’s ID document, motor vehicle driver’s
licence (where applicable), all educational qualifications obtained

the occupation, must also be submitted and attached to every
application.
 Applicants will be subjected to fingerprint screening.
 Persons who retired from the Public Service by taking a severance
package, early retirement or for medical reasons, as well as persons
with previous convictions, are excluded.
 Appointments will be made in terms of the South African Police Service
Act, 1995.
 Successful applicants to be appointed in terms of the South African
Police Service Act, 1995 (Act no 68 of 1995) will have to undergo a
medical examination and found to be medically fit. They will further
have to comply with the prescripts on the SAPS Dress Order, whereby
tattoos may not be visible when wearing uniform. Must be willing to
undergo training as prescribed by the National Commissioner.

security clearance.
